In July we visited the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan and the ancient Silk Road cities of Uzbekistan. We flew through Riga, Latvia to Dushanbe, Tajikistan and headed east and south for 3 days to Khorog through the many mountain ranges of the Pamirs. From there we traveled another 2 days along the Panj River in the Wakhan Corridor, a narrow strip of Afghanistan between Tajikistan and Pakistan. with great views of the Hindu Kush. We headed north into the Alichur Mountains near Bulunkul to begin our trek. We had great views of mountains, wildflowers and marmots before returning to the road at Batchor. The next day we had a spectacular mountain flight from Khorog back to Dushanbe followed by another mountain flight over the Fann Mountains to Khojand near the Uzbekistan border. We traveled by road to Tashkent to catch an overnight train to Bukhara and visit this ancient Silk Road city before taking a day train to Samarkand. We headed back to Dushanbe by road to catch the flight home.
