We participated in an Earthwatch project, "Macaws of the Peruvian Amazon", in November of 2001, at the Tambopata Research Center, a few hours from Puerto Maldonado, Peru, along with 14 other volunteers. We counted macaws, parrots, and parakeets visiting a clay lick on the cliffs along the Tambopata River. We also observed the behavior of macaw pairs at several nest sites in the area. After the project, we visited Cusco and Manu Reserve.
