Nicaragua and Suriname, 2015
Another flight through Mexico City brought us to Managua, Nicaragua where we proceeded northeast to Leon to spend a few days climbing the nearby volcanoes of Teluca, Cerro Negro, San Cristobal and Momotombo. We spent a few more days in the south exploring the mangroves and jungles of Lake Nicaragua and Rio San Carlos. We made a final stop in the historic city of Granada. Read our blog posts at "Nicaragua's Fire Mountains" and "Nicaragua's Colorful Natural & Human History".
We left Nicaragua for Suriname, spending a couple of days in Paramaribo before heading into the interior at Palumeu to hike up Kasikasima, a big lump of rock in the middle of the jungle. From there we flew to Awarradum to explore more jungle. After that we did a road trip along the coast to Albina and spent an evening with nesting sea turtles. We have a few more details at "Kasikasima, Biggest of the Big!" and "Pretty Poison & Watch out for the Slang!".
