We continued to Mexico and visited the monarch butterfly sanctuaries in the highlands west of Mexico City. Millions of monarch butterflies migrate south from Canada and the USA to this small area for the winter. See our blog entries at "Where Have all the Monarchs Gone?" and
"The Human Side of Central Mexico".
We then flew to southern Baja to see the gray whale winter migration at Magdalena Bay and San Ignacio Lagoon along the Pacific coast. Gray whales swim over 6,000 miles from their summer feeding grounds in the Bering and Chukchi Seas between Alaska and Siberia. See our blog entries at
"Close Encounters of the Gray Whale Kind" and
"Gray Whale Hanky-Panky".
