Argentina and Uruguay - 2010
We flew to Buenos Aires, Argentina in November and crossed the Rio La Plata by ferry to visit Colonia, Uruguay - a UNESCO World Heritage site with Spanish and Portugese history. We returned to Buenos Aires and flew south to El Calafate to hike in Patagonia. There we visited Los Glaciares National Park, first to Perito Moreno Glacier near to El Calafate, then to El Chalten for a trek around Monte Fitz Roy on the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. We hiked up the Rio Electrico valley and the Marconi Glacier to the ice field, spending a night in a hut in Chile near Gorra Blanco and another night on the ice field before coming down the Viedma Glacier and eventually back to El Chalten.
